OVERVIEW

What is a Gravity-Free Mixer?

Gravity-Free Mixer (also known as Double-Shaft Paddle Gravity-Free Mixer) is an advanced industrial mixing equipment that achieves high-efficiency material mixing by utilizing the principle of instantaneous weightlessness. The equipment, with its specially designed internal paddle structure, enables materials to form a fluidized bed in the mixing chamber. Under centrifugal force, the materials are thrown into the air, reach a weightless state, and then fall freely— realizing comprehensive, dead-angle-free mixing results for various industrial materials.

Gravity-Free Mixers are divided into Horizontal Gravity-Free Mixers and Dual-Shaft Gravity-Free Mixers, and they are a type of 3D Mixer. Multifunctional Gravity-Free Mixers are equipped with additional components such as flying knives.A Gravity-Free Mixer is fitted with two parallel shafts that rotate in opposite directions, and these shafts are equipped with blades set at different preset angles. When the blades rotate, the linear speed at which they agitate the materials exceeds the critical speed, allowing the materials to reach the highest point of a parabola. This point is what we call the gravity-free point, which is why the Gravity-Free Mixer is also known as the Dual-Shaft Blade Mixer.

The Gravity-Free Mixer adopts a horizontal W-shaped cylinder, with two sets of parallel shafts rotating in opposite directions inside. The two shafts are equipped with blades at opposite angles (referred to as dual horizontal shafts). During operation, the shafts drive the materials to reach the highest point of a parabola, causing the materials to be in a state of instantaneous weightlessness, which is called the gravity-free point. At this point, materials with different particle sizes and densities can achieve uniform mixing, so it is also called the Gravity-Free Dual-Shaft Blade Mixer. The materials on both sides move in opposite directions, falling into each other's areas, and a convection current is formed in the central part. This ensures that the materials undergo three-dimensional throwing movement in the radial, circumferential, and axial directions, forming a composite cycle to quickly achieve uniform mixing. The designed mixing time is 1-3 minutes, and after mixing, the materials are discharged from the bottom.

Compared with other mixers, the Gravity-Free Mixer has the advantages of short mixing time, wide adaptability, and no damage to the mixed materials. It will not crush or grind the materials and has good adaptability for mixing coarse and fine materials.Without damaging the mixture, the Gravity-Free Mixer generates composite movements such as transverse staggered convection, blending, and diffusion inside the mixer body, enabling the materials to achieve a good mixing effect in a short time.

Working Principle of Gravity-Free Mixer:

The Gravity-Free Mixer has a set of main shafts rotating relative to each other, which drive the blades to rotate. The blades throw the materials to the spatial level along the axial and radial directions at a certain angle, and circulate and stir the materials. The materials in the spatial flow layer experience instantaneous weightlessness, where centrifugal force and gravity offset each other (in the weightless state, the difference in material density has no impact on the mixing uniformity). The materials mix into each other's areas, forming a fluidized weightless zone (i.e., gravity-free zone, also called instantaneous weightless zone) in the middle layer, and a rotating vortex is formed around the main shafts.A material translation flow layer is formed at the bottom of the Gravity-Free Mixer, and the materials move axially at the bottom.Driven by both radial and axial forces, the materials undergo three-dimensional composite movement, forming a composite cycle to quickly achieve the purpose of uniform mixing. This greatly improves the mixing efficiency and shortens the mixing time.An atomizing nozzle installed on the cylinder cover can meet the needs of solid-liquid mixing.

Applications of Gravity-Free Mixer:

  • Applicable Industries: Chemical industry, biological industry, electronic battery industry, construction mortar industry, mining industry, agricultural industry, building materials industry, etc.
  • Applicable Materials: Matching materials such as granular, fibrous, flaky, viscous, and puffed materials.
  • Purpose of Use: Mixing materials with large differences in physical properties such as specific gravity, fineness, and fluidity. It is used for fast, large-capacity mixing of dry bulk solids or solid-liquid mixtures without segregation, and the mixing process is gentle.
  • Applicable Materials: It is used for mixing materials such as chemical products, lithium battery positive and negative electrode powders, cosmetics, detergents, pharmaceuticals, monosodium glutamate, milk powder, spices, and additives. It is also suitable for mixing and drying operations under vacuum. In addition, it is applicable to products such as dry-mixed mortar, admixtures, cosmetics, detergents, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, food products, dyes, brewing materials, feed, building materials, ceramics, coatings, resins, fine chemicals, rubber, electronic materials, dry-mixed mortar, vitrified microsphere thermal insulation mortar, rubber powder polystyrene particle thermal insulation mortar, bonding mortar, plastering mortar, floor mortar, putty powder, concrete admixtures, glass silicon, and powder coatings.

The structural design of the Gravity-Free Mixer has the following features:

Double-Shaft Design: The horizontal cylinder of the gravity-free mixer is equipped with a pair of shafts rotating in opposite directions. Each shaft is fitted with paddles at specific angles and in an overlapping arrangement— a key design to enhance mixing efficiency for industrial production.

Discharging System: The discharging method is usually a pneumatic (manual) flap valve. The arc-shaped valve is tightly embedded in the cylinder, flush with the inner cylinder wall, ensuring no material accumulation or mixing dead angles— ideal for maintaining stable production quality in manufacturing lines.

Reduction Gear System: The rotation speed of the shafts driven by the reducer, combined with the paddle structure, weakens the gravity of materials. This minimizes the impact of large differences in particle size and specific gravity among materials during mixing— a critical advantage for high-precision solid-solid mixing tasks.

Flexible Configuration: According to user needs, liquid spraying and jacket devices can be added to convert the gravity-free mixer into a solid-liquid mixing machine or drying equipment— providing customized industrial mixing solutions for manufacturers and procurement teams.

Advantages of the Gravity-Free Mixer:

High-Efficiency Mixing Capacity: The most notable feature of the gravity-free mixer is its high-efficiency mixing performance. The intense stirring motion shortens the single mixing cycle; generally, powder mixing can be completed in only 3-5 minutes— greatly improving production efficiency for factory operations.

High Mixing Uniformity: The gravity-free mixer avoids stratification and segregation when mixing materials with large differences in specific gravity and particle size. Even in solid-solid mixing with a 1:1000 ratio, the standard deviation can reach a high-precision level of 3 to 8 parts per 100,000— meeting the strict quality standards of production line engineers.

Wide Applicability: This industrial mixer has strong adaptability to materials. Even with differences in specific gravity and particle size, excellent mixing results are achieved through the rapid and intense tumbling of staggered stirring blades. It supports spraying operations with liquid content below 17%; with optional liquid spraying and jacket devices, it can also work as a solid (powder)-liquid mixing machine (for mixing with liquid content <15%) or drying equipment— suitable for diverse industrial scenarios.

Low-Energy Consumption Design: Compared with traditional mixers, the energy consumption of the gravity-free mixer is 1/4 to 1/10 that of ordinary mixers, significantly reducing operating costs— a cost-saving benefit highly valued by factory managers and procurement professionals.
